Jacob “Jake” Updegrove was born in Shillington, Pennsylvania and attended school there until the age of 16 when he moved to Tampa, Florida with his parents. He graduated from Plant High School in Tampa, Florida in 1956. He has an Associate in Science Degree in Police Administration from St. Petersburg Junior College and a Bachelor of Arts Degree in Criminal Justice from the University of South Florida. Jake has completed forty years in Law Enforcement with the combining of the two agencies. He has also served in the Armed Forces for twenty-seven years with most of that being in the Reserves. He and his wife Joan have one daughter and two grandchildren who all reside in Tampa, Florida.

This is the story of my life as I moved on after high school, worked in a hat factory, later serving in the Army. With God’s guidance, my career in law enforcement became a reality. A sampling of cases that I worked will give the reader an idea of how horrific things occur while most of society is safely at home or at work. When we trust in God, he will see us through. God Bless!
